Puss in boots game trailer

Puss in boots the game (using kinect)

We went to the animation festival (Baf games) In one of the lectures we where introduced to the the game and film Puss in boots.
The thing that struck me about this game was not how it consisted of the character puss in boots but on how your body is the controller.
This is achieved by using the new and quite frankly amazing piece of software called the Kinect Controller.

You Move your arm and the sword moves, you do a certain move and Puss in boots produces a guitar to woo the foe.

Puss in Boots the movie

Puss in boots movie trailer
Puss in boots is a character from the film Shrek. He was a cute adorable yet fierce and mean character when he needed to be.
Puss in boots uses his cuteness to get his own way. When this fails he uses his cat speed and agility along with his sword skills to fight off his foes.
I believe Dream work studios decided to base a film on this character as he appealed to so many people.
I plan to go and watch it:)

concept background design

Tony Holmsten

I love this piece of concept art by Tony Holmsten as it has a very 3d feel to it.
The depth of this picture makes you want to study it very carefully. I think this helped me in my designs as it made me think of depth in my drawings.I have to draw my concept art in 3d to give the viewer more to think about when looking at it and to also give the game designer a better idea of how I want the game to look.

Christian Ronquillo

I love these backgrounds and the way the pictures draw you into the scene.

Michael Franchina

Work that has inspired me to add a lot of layers in my designs also i like the way he has only used a few colours instead of many.

In this picture Zarton is entangling a creature from his home planet and turning him into stone. I like the idea of drawing on stories from mythology, I think it draws people into the story as it is familiar.

Zarton like to mess about so this is a piece of concept art i designed to show that even though he is an evil menace he likes to joke about.
In this picture Zarton is displaying his magical powers by shooting out bolts of blue matter.
These are the final designs of my character in rough on photoshop.
My character has changed from being a kind and giving being to becoming an evil and chaotic menace that loves to destroy nature just for fun instead of being just and helping nature.
I have decided to do this because I believe people would find it boring playing a game where you have to look after the planet and reckon a lot more people would be interested in being the bad guy and destroying the balance of nature. I think the irony of this in today's world adds another dimension to the game/character.

These are some designs I made which are meant to be about how Zarton looks from different angles. This however is not how I want him to look anymore as I want him to look a bit more evil.
I have now decided to change my character from being a nice do gooder to an evil menace that wants nothing more than to ravage the lands and suck out all that is good in the world feasting on fear.

These are the first designs for my character. In these all I used were pens and felts.

I started to try out some new techniques in drawing to help me with my drawing skills.
I have done this by copying this piece of concept art and adding my own twist to it by using significant body parts from my character and merging it with this piece of concept art.

Concept art

These pictures and all from the Blizzard Art community.
These pictures have given me some ideas about how i will design my new character and the style i will use.
The way these artists have used tons of detail to make the character come alive i recon is rather interesting and something i plan on doing.
I also like the way they can give a monster emotion by all the different facial expressions i will also try and use this in my work.

First character designs that I decided to dismiss
